Do you understand the meaning behind Christmas decorations?

Christmas is an important season in the UK. You can find Christmas decorations in shops even before Halloween. When I lived in Hong Kong, I didn’t try to understand the meaning behind these decorations. To share the true reason for the season with non-Christians through a game, I decided to look up their meanings online. I discovered that these decorations carry deep symbolic significance. Perhaps I had forgotten that Britain is a predominantly Christian country.

Growing up in an evangelical church, my understanding of liturgy was limited to the bread and cup in the Eucharist. My first real exposure to worship liturgy came during my studies at Divinity School. The early church gave special meaning to every aspect of liturgy, aiming to help people experience God through worship.

When you are captivated by the sparkling Christmas tree, remember that Jesus is the Light of the World. When you hang a round Christmas wreath on your door, remember it symbolizes the endless love of God. And as you open the Advent calendar, remember that the Advent season also reminds us of the second coming of Jesus. How are you preparing yourself for the second coming of Jesus?
